Upcoming Student Vote NUS Referendum 2026

SOAS Students' Union is holding a referendum to ask students whether they think their Union should remain affiliated with NUS UK. This referendum was triggered by a motion approved at the 2025 Annual General Meeting.

We're asking all our SU members:

"Should SOAS Students' Union remain affiliated to the National Union of Students UK (NUS UK)?"

Students will be able to select one answer in the vote (Yes or No). The referendum gives all students the opportunity to express their views on this important topic and shape the action the Union takes.

Important Context

The NUS operates as two distinct entities: NUS UK (the political and national campaigning arm) and NUS Charity (which provides Student Unions with staff training and operational resources). The upcoming referendum only concerns our political affiliation with NUS UK.

If you would like to form or join a campaign team (Yes or No campaign), Please click here to reach out to us. Individuals who would like to be a part of a campaign team have until 9th November, 5pm to express interest.

The key dates for the Referendum are as follows

Voting opens: Thursday 26th November 9am
Voting closes: Thursday 3rd December 4pm
Results announced: Friday 4th December

We are currently building a dedicated Referendum Hub, which will launch in two weeks. This hub will provide full context on how your union fees are spent, what NUS UK does, campaign rules and voting links.
