SOAS decides... In or Out?

On 23 June, voters across the UK will get to decide on whether Britain remains as a member of the European Union (EU) or leaves. Earlier in June, SOAS held its own referendum to determine the Union's stance. Students were able to vote online in our referendum to show what SOAS students think - home, EU and international - about Britain's role in the European Union. The results are as follows:

Overall Results
Remain 49
Leave 10
Abstain 2

EU/International Students

Remain 27
Leave 3
Abstain 1

Home Students

Remain 22
Leave 7
Abstain 1

From these results, SOAS Students' Union's official stance is that the UK should remain inside the European Union.

SOAS students who are UK and Irish citizens or are citizens of Commonwealth country members will get a vote on the day. If you're one of those who does have a vote in this referendum, we hope this mock referendum was a chance to engage in the arguments and listen to the voices of international students. For those who don't, we wanted to give you the opportunity to have your say and to speak to fellow students about how Britain's role in the EU affects you.
