The 93% Club SOAS is a multi-award-winning dedicated student-led chapter of the UK’s largest network for state-educated university students. Named after the 93% of the British population who attend state schools, our society focuses on bridging the systematic gap between state-school educated students and elite employment opportunities. We serve as a professional development, networking, and community hub that levels the playing field for students who did not attend private or independent schools. Our society is primarily driven by a socio-economic and educational cause. We champion social mobility and advocate for equal opportunity within higher education and professional corporate sectors. While it is a cause, it is rooted in a deeply shared lived experience. Our members share the background of navigating higher education without the generational wealth, private counselling, or elite professional networks typically afforded to the 7% of privately educated individuals. The society exists because structural inequality does not disappear upon gaining admission to university; state-school students frequently lack the institutional legacy, hidden professional data, and network networks that private schools pass down to their alumni. Our purpose is to democratise institutional privilege.
We exist to dismantle the class inequality that exists in Britain today through the power of community. By bringing together thousands of like-minded individuals across the country, we are breaking down the structural barriers to social mobility and building a future that’s fairer for the next generation.
