About Us
The SOAS Chapter of Global Brigades is a student led group that supports Global Brigades in the implementation of a holistic model to meet the health and economic goals of rural communities in Greece. Along with other GB at other universities, our Chapter participates in year-round recruitment, fundraising, and awareness events that ultimately result in our participation in a 7-9 day brigade, where we actively participate in programming (e.g., Medical, Dental, Public Health, Water, Engineering, Legal Empowerment, Business).
Our legal empowerment society aims to:
1. Provide Legal Education and Resources: Partner and shadow with Greek attorneys to offer legal education and financial resources to vulnerable families and under-resourced communities.
2. Promote Sustainable Volunteering: Lead brigades to Greece where students will engage in sustainable volunteer work, ensuring that their efforts create lasting, positive impacts in the communities we serve.
3. Develop Soft Skills: Offer students the opportunity to develop essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and cultural sensitivity through hands-on legal empowerment activities.
4. Foster Global Citizenship: Encourage students to become global citizens by exposing them to different cultures and legal systems, promoting a deeper understanding of global issues and the importance of access to justice for all. By participating in our brigades and ongoing projects, students will not only contribute to meaningful change but also gain invaluable experience that will benefit them in their personal and professional lives.
