Dr Ambedkar Society, SOAS is a student-led initiative for debate, discussion and new critical understanding of the various struggles of liberation against systemic oppression worldwide. Ambedkar Society is an attempt to radically reimagine the politics of social liberation by engaging with actual narratives of pressure in India and globally. We firmly believe that the time has come when oppressed people lead their struggles, and the role of Gramscian organic intellectuals is only limited to contributing themselves as participants in the struggle against oppression. We attempt to understand issues of Social Justice, Gender, Caste and Race in India and the global south through the perspectives of the oppressed. The Ambedkar Society is founded on Dr B. R. Ambdekar's idea of the need for social democracy in India. Dr B. R. Ambedkar has been credited with being the foremost thinker of social justice (and not mere justice), equality and emancipation of the socially excluded and marginalised communities in India. He is considered to be the maker of modern India, whose constitution guides India's democracy today.
