It was a pleasure to sit down and talk about the current situation in Myanmar with Chris Gunness earlier this week. Chris was the former chief spokesperson for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, and is currently the Director of the Myanmar Accountability Project. Chris was kind enough to come to SOAS and participate in the Myanmar Society & British Red Cross Myanmar advocacy week. We spoke about some of the similarities/differences between the people's resistance after the February 1st 2021 military coup compared with other cases, such as the 1988 Uprising and the 2007 Saffron Revolution. Other topics included Ukraine and understanding how the international response towards Russia may set a precedent for international handlings of Myanmar.
