As you kick off your journey here, remember that the Students' Union (SU) is more than just a support system—it’s your launchpad for changing the world, starting right here on campus. We’re living in a time when the personal is political, and issues like social justice, climate change, inequality, and human rights are front and center. At SOAS, these aren’t just buzzwords—they’re part of who we are and what we do. The SU is here to make sure your time at SOAS is not just about passing exams but about engaging with the big issues that define our world today. 

The SU also backs over 100 student societies, covering a wide range of interests and identities. These societies aren’t just about hobbies—they’re about building communities and organizing for change. So, whether you’re into activism, arts, or just want to meet new people, make sure to swing by the Freshers’ Fayre on Friday, 27th September, and dive in. We know that student life isn’t always easy. Whether it’s dealing with housing hassles, navigating university bureaucracy, or facing discrimination, the SU has your back. We offer independent advice, run crucial campaigns like the Enough is Enough project against sexual harassment, and stand with you when you need to challenge unfair decisions. 

Throughout the year, the SU hosts a variety of events—from political debates and protests to cultural celebrations and just-for-fun gatherings. These events are more than just activities—they’re chances to connect with people who, like you, are passionate about making a difference. 

And when you need a break from changing the world, our student spaces—the Junior Common Room (JCR), Coffee Pod, and SU Bar—are perfect for relaxing, meeting up with friends, or brainstorming your next big idea.
