Tell Me About It

The tell me about it initiative is created so that if you, as students, have any feedback about your course, then you can talk to the student representatives of your course. Your programme and department reps are students, elected by you, who will be volunteering their time to listen to your feedback and tell the university what needs changing.

Enough Is Enough Workshops

Enough is Enough is the SU's project which aims to eliminate sexual violence and gender based violence on campus.

These workshops are designed to look at consent through an intersectional and survivor lens. It will give you the knowledge to create a consent culture, the skills to challenge harmful behaviours and information about reporting and support options at SOAS. The workshops are mandatory for new SOAS Students (including first years, masters, phd students)

The last chance to attend the workshop will be the 15th November in the BGLT. The times are: 1-3pm, 3-5pm, and 5-7pm.

Register to Vote

Finally, remember that as a student you can register to vote at two addresses (although you can only vote once during General Elections).

This means that you'll be able to vote in local elections taking place next year and you'll be able to vote from your term time address if a General Election is called, and it's likely that one will take place during or before Autumn next year. You can register to vote at your term time address here.

Guidance about who can vote is available here:  https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8985/

Vantage

Vantage is a completely free online portal that connects students to some of the top legal employers in the country. Vantage allows these firms and chambers to headhunt specific students to offer them several unique and relevant opportunities, from insight days and events to training contracts and pupillage opportunities. It takes less than 10 minutes to complete a profile, and when a firm or chambers then contacts them through Vantage, you know they are genuinely interested in engaging with them. Vantage is part of Rare Recruitment.

For clarity, we assist students in the following ways:

  • Host weekly Wednesday Webinars with our partners. Students can ask questions to fee-earners, trainee solicitors and graduate recruitment representatives;

  • Provide application hints and tips and deadline reminders;

  • Deliver sessions to law schools on commercial awareness and application-based topics (e.g., navigating legal assessment centres, researching law firms, creating your own brand and others);

  • Organise giveaways with prizes including mock interviews, electronics and CV reviews;

  • Host a series of virtual sessions in collaboration with several of our clients specifically for first years, and penultimate year students;

  • Host Graduate Recruitment Q&A panels ahead of training contract, and vacation schemes deadlines;

  • Organise online seminar series (e.g., Lives in Law Series with sessions on Black, Pakistani & Bangladeshi, LGBTQI+, Social Mobility Lives in Law, Women in Law and many more).

If any student (of any age) is interested in the idea of learning how to repair, tech, electrical items etc, Restarters and the Fixing Cafes may be the right place to start. If you have repair skills, or are interested in getting some in the SOAS community, please contact Antonia (ab93). If enough interest exists we can work out next steps
