Term 3 Covid Update

An announcement has now been made by the government regarding return to studying on campus for most courses - it has been delayed until no earlier than May 17th.
You can find further information about this and what it means for SOAS via their website and the regular Covid newsletter emails sent out to all students.

Although there will be some extra access to campus in term 3, included extended library opening hours and study spaces, students are being asked not to travel and return to campus before May 17th, and there will be no in-person teaching activities happening.

What does this mean for the Students' Union?

Our outdoor sports teams are starting back to training and games from 29th March - if you want to know more contact Jesse Dodoo our Sports Coordinator on jd124@soas.ac.uk
This may also apply to physical activity societies such as combat sports. This will depend on whether your activity can take place safely outside, or in an alternative location as there will be no activity on campus at this time. You will need to complete appropriate risk assessment procedures, and get confirmation from the SU before starting any in-person activities. Contact us via Jesse on jd124@soas.ac.uk to discuss it. Jesse works on Mondays & Tuesdays only at this time.

We will be opening up our snack shop for supplies and coffee on campus towards the end of April, keep an eye on our socials to find out what will be on offer

The bar will remain closed for the time being, we're looking towards opening up over the summer, this will be kept on review depending on national restrictions and the level of activity and need on campus.

At the moment national restrictions are indicating changes in mid-May that will allow for outdoor social activity with larger groups and indoor sports

We will be in touch directly with society & sports clubs committees about what opportunities there will be for in-person activity, and the safety measures that will need to be in place. We're not expecting any in-person society activity to happen on campus or indoors for the rest of this year.

Our team will be returning on a limited basis to the SU offices from mid-May, at this point we will be able to offer in person meetings with staff & officers, however this will be by appointment only still, and most of what we do will stay online for the rest of the academic year.

Although we will be offering some limited services on campus for those in London who are accessing in-person academic activities & study spaces, the SU will continue mostly online for the rest of the year - all of our events, services like advice & support, general meetings, etc will be online, and accessible to all students whether you're in London or not.
