Congratulations on confirming your place at SOAS for this upcoming year - YOU DID IT!
As a student at SOAS you are now part of the SOAS Students’ Union, which means you are eligible to join over 200 student led societies and sports teams, throw yourself into campaigns and connect with the wider SOAS community. We're writing to let you know how you can stay in contact with the Students’ Union ahead of your arrival in September. Instead of emails (those will start when you get your SOAS email address!), we'll be keeping our facebook, twitter and instagram up-to-date, as well as our app. Be sure to like, follow and download to stay in the loop about the incredible Freshers' Fortnight we have planned for you! And, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in contact via social media.
The SOAS Community is a unique and diverse body of people that thrives to make change and celebrate difference. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of activism - from combating the marketisation of higher education to fighting the BME attainment gap. Your Students' Union (of which you are a vital member) is committed to enhancing your time here at SOAS, and impacting your future. If you would like to get more involved, be sure to come and see us when you get here - we'll be the ones hosting the parties, facilitating the liberation networks and running zine making workshops (and so much more). You can find our contact details on the Students' Union website (www.soasunion.org), or on our app.
The Student Union is made up of 4 sabbatical officers (or sabbs) and 16 part-time student officers, more on this under the ‘Democracy’ tab of the website. We are here to help you with whatever idea or problems you may encounter in your time at SOAS.
Lastly, if you have any worries about your upcoming time here at SOAS, rest assured you're not alone. Join the Official SOAS Freshers' 2018-19 Facebook page to get in contact with everyone you're going to meet next month - you can also find links to the accommodation page here too.
Peace and solidarity,
Hau-Yu, Jess, Soph and Youssra.
