We've organised an initiative where we can come together virtually during these times of stress & uncertainty, to unwind and engage in an immersive experience of art and dialogue. This event provides a platform to support & amplify Iranian artists.

Naghsh o Neshat / ??? ? ????

When: Thu 21 January 2021 18:00-20:30
Where: Virtual

Naghsh o Neshat is a creative evening series where we gather, virtually, with our chai and art supplies to unwind and have open conversations inspiring a theme of art to focus on for the session. Join us to have different discussions ranging in theme from migration, identity, motherhood, exile as well as love, language and redemption, where we will engage in dialogue and a muse for our art – whatever you choose to create. These sessions will be led by upcoming artists and illustrators in the diaspora who talk about their approach, design and technique.

Neshat (????) translates to cheerfulness in Farsi, it often times connotes a vigor and vitality. This is what we’re striving to create for our community through art. Naghsh o Neshat eloquently describes a creative series combining art and conversation for articulating some of those sentiments that are that much harder to make sense of.

Join us with your chai and art supplies to relax and have conversations focused on a chosen theme which will inspire or guide our artwork for the evening. This session is welcome to all, you don’t need any particular set of art supplies to join - pencils, pens, paints and even digital art is welcome.  The theme for this week is "motherhood" and our discussion will be an intervention into normalised traditional roles as well as heteronormative and hegemonic expectations of women, especially within the wider diaspora. We will be examining the ways in which social imperatives and traditional values are cast on women and how a rejection of these standards often outcasts and ostracises women globally. This session will be led by upcoming artist Sahar Ghorishi, a multidisciplinary artist whose work online explores politics and the feelings of displacement through. illustrations and animations as well as paintings and drawings. She is the founder of @journeyoftodawn and director of the dazed and cosmopolitan featured “Fall of the Standard of Beauty: The Iranian nose”.
