On Wednesday 11th December, Alexei Sayle will sit down with SOAS Northern Society president, Daniel Sharp, to discuss how being Northern has shaped his humour, career, politics, and identity.
Sayle, born in Liverpool in 1952, is a comedian, broadcaster, author, and activist; most famous for his role in establishing the alternative comedy scene of the UK in the early 80s. He is also well known for his numerous TV and film appearances such as in ‘The Young Ones’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, as well as hosting many of his own TV and radio shows including ‘Alexei Sayle's Stuff’ and ‘Alexei Sayle's Imaginary Sandwich Bar’.
Sayle is also a prominent left-wing and pro-Palestinian activist. Born to two members of the Communist Party of Great Britain, Sayle was involved in left-wing politics from an early age.
