According to a widespread and ancient belief, birds can be mediators between gods and men. In Persian arts, especially Persian miniature, birds have been represented both symbolically and non-symbolically; they are at times the main subject of the story and sometimes used merely as an ornamental form.
This course will focus on the most common/ popular birds in Persian miniature paintings and addresses various essential details involved in drawing and painting them. In this course, you will learn:
  • How to draw geese
  • How to draw doves
  • How to draw falcons
  • How to draw peacocks
  • How to practice the main postures of each bird in Persian miniature
  • How to prepare the paper for painting
  • How to color and outline the details of each bird
  • How to shade and render the fine details
Following a line of gradual development, students will be guided step by step to experience various stages of drawing, coloring, and outlining the given birds. Their practices will be checked one by one and necessary instructions will be given.
Participants in all levels of experience are welcome to join. Having previous knowledge and skill of brush techniques is an advantage, but not necessary.
Students will receive the list of the required materials once they register. Or if you have already joined one of Anahita’s courses, the materials would be the same as those of the previous classes.
The registration deadline is 20 May 2021, and given the limitations of online courses, we have a limited number of places available (first come, first served). For registration and more information about the course please email us at
