Growing out of the discussions and work put into the Festival, this panel discussion seeks to tease out and expose the intersections of everyday borders, workplace exploitation, migrant demonisation and invisibilisation.
No Borders! No White Supremacy!
When: Fri 06 October 2017 18:00-20:00
Where: Senate House Atrium
On Thursday 5th & Friday 6th October, the Coalition Against Borders will be hosting Festival of Resisting Borders: Fighting Hostile Environment. The closing panel discussion on No Borders! No White Supremacy! will be facilitated by Justice For Grenfell, Justice for LSE Cleaners, SOAS Justice For Workers - End Outsourcing, South Asia Solidarity Group & United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC).
The Coalition Against Borders sensed the urgent need to create an event that would help alert and guide new & continuing students into understanding and organising with us in opposing the hostile environment policy and workplace exploitation, while linking them to anti-racists, anti-borders groups, and unions that support the struggles of migrants. This Coalition Against Borders is an emergent, fluid and loose coalition of groups and activists united in our urgent endeavour to amplify each other’s forces against the hostile environment policy and migrant labour precarity.
The closing panel discussion will tackle questions such as:
- how can we support undocumented migrants of Grenfell and those who are fighting against worker exploitation and against state and corporate violence?
- with the significant rise in far-right wing and fascist parties, how can we we combat the globalised fascist and Islamophobic violence affecting Muslims?
- what are the key steps to ensure the success of a migrant workers’ campaign against labour exploitation?
- how can we ensure that the calls to decolonise the university do not become co-opted into the neoliberal agenda by higher education institutions?
This is a free event open to migrants, activists, students, university staff, and allies. For more information contact us at CoAgBo2017@gmail.com.
