WHO ARE WE ?

Hi, my name is Sabrina and I am a 1st year undergraduate student studying International Relations. As a British-Pakistani who has previously been educated in a largely mono-ethnic environment, I believe that representation of people of colour is essential within society, especially within education and I want to be a voice with Hafsah, for this movement and give people a safe space and platform to discuss issues facing people of colour.

Hello everyone, my name is Hafsah and I am a first-year undergraduate student studying Politics and International Relations. I would like to stand for POC officer alongside Sabrina, as I feel that the views and opinions of people within this category should be amplified on an accessible platform. I believe that providing an open space to discuss certain issues will help to create a more comfortable atmosphere and university experience, allowing us to achieve more and create positive social action at SOAS.

OUR GOALS:

•Representing people of colour within SOAS to ensure that their views are heard on an accessible platform
•Further discussing and addressing the issue of Bursaries and its impact on POC’s.
•Encouraging dialogue about mental health in POC communities
•Making POC students aware of the career opportunities available for ‘students from ethnic minority or low socio-economic backgrounds for career success.’
•Bringing to light the achievements and scholarship of POC’s at SOAS. E.g. hosting events for Black History Month.
•Termly meetings to address any issues with the option for office hours for open discussion – OPEN DOOR POLICY
•Events with societies across the university to discuss issues facing POC’s today – inviting POC speakers to the University.
