Valeria Racu & Lavinya Stennett
We’re Valeria and Lavinya, your Working Class Officers for the year 2017/18. Valeria is a second year studying BA Social Anthropology. and Lavinya is in the second year of BA Development and African Studies degree.
Our central aim for this year is to ensure the working class demographic is represented so their voices are heard and needs met. As proposed in our manifesto, here are a few things we would like to champion this year;
- Tailored social mobility workshops that include sessions of CV writing, budgeting skills, internship applications, ‘know your worker rights’, and tenancy support.
- School and college outreach programmes, in partnership with SOAS Widening Participation and local councils. The programmes will be specifically targeted to low socio-economic areas to encourage and support working class students in their application to SOAS.
- Provisions for the current SOAS working class community in suitable mental health sessions, subsidised travel and food.
We look forward in collaborating with the SU team to create a welcoming, fun atmosphere where each student has equal access to higher education and opportunities.
