1.  Apply to be a consent training facilitator during Freshers week next year!

Open to all students, including those finishing this year!

Deadline: noon on Friday 26th April, 2019

Apply here

SOAS Students' Union is committed to tackling sexual violence and harassment and will be running mandatory workshops once again for the incoming freshers' students' for 2018/19. We are recruiting facilitators to deliver the consent workshops for all new students in the next academic year and would like to hear from you if you are interested.

We are looking for people who demonstrate a strong passion for tackling sexual violence and harassment, can articulate enthusiasm and understanding of consent, display good presentation and communication skills, as well as a commitment to equality and liberation. Previous experience is not necessary and full paid training will be provided.

You will need to be available on the following dates for training and delivery of the workshops: a date between the end of exams and the 11th June, two days in September for refresher training (the week before Freshers' Week), and the whole of Freshers Week. Unfortunately, if you cannot attend any of these we will not be able to offer you the position. This is to ensure you have been provided with all these right skills and knowledge to deliver quality consent workshops.

You will be paid London Living Wage (£10.55 p/h). All training is paid.

SOAS Students' Union is committed to equality and liberation. We strongly encourage applications from students who face structural oppression and barriers in accessing education and employment.

If you are successful in your application, you will be invited to an informal group session. We will be holding informal group sessions to give you more information on the role. This will be an opportunity for you to see if you are interested in this role, as well as a chance for you to demonstrate your suitability.

2. Apply to be the Enough Is Enough Consent Training Project Coordinator, 23rd April

In 2016 SOAS SU ran its first ever set of comprehensive consent trainings for new students as part of its commitment to reducing sexual violence on campus. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the programme has been funded by SOAS for an extra five years. We are now in our fourth year of training.

SOAS SU is looking for a student Project Co-Ordinator to manage consent trainings for the next academic year. The role will work with the current and incoming Co-President Welfare & Campaigns and the SU General Manager to re-run and improve the successful programme we put on last year. The role will involve helping recruit next years trainers, working with the School to get the rooms booked and new students allocated, and to help run the week. The role is part-time, and approximately 180 hours in total between May and October, you will definitely need to be available full time for the first week of June, and the last two weeks of September. It is a great opportunity to run an important project, developing key skills and working in a supportive but challenging team.

Knowledge of, and involvement in the previous round of consent training would be useful but is not compulsory, however all applications should show a deep understand of the issues around sexual violence, consent and the sensitivities of this kind of training. The applicant needs to be a member of SOAS Students' Union. We will also welcome joint applications as we may end up appointing more than one co-ordinator as a job share.

To apply please send your CV and One Page Cover Letter to pb14@soas.ac.uk by 1pm on the 23rd April.
