Lawyers Without Borders

About Us

Letter from the 2025/26 Committee

"Lawyers Without Borders (LWOB) – Student Division at SOAS" is a student-run society at SOAS stemming from LWOB, a not-for-profit international organisation that manages lawyers offering pro bono service worldwide to promote rule of law and human rights projects.

Lawyers Without Borders Society is dedicated to advancing justice worldwide through the rule of law, the principle that fair, clear laws apply equally to all and ensure access to justice for everyone. What makes us unique is our global pro bono network, our partner-driven and locally led approach, and our strict neutrality in working with all justice actors.

At SOAS university, we bring these values to life through a range of engaging events: visits to leading law firms, collaborations with other societies, and thought-provoking talks on issues like access to justice, human trafficking, and the ethical use of legal AI. Each year, we also host the Rule of Law Innovation Challenge, where students can develop and present ideas to top law firms, with opportunities for mentorship and work experience.

We hope to conclude the academic year with greater awareness of human rights issues around the world, and the role we can all play in tackling them.
