Thanks to everyone for voting in this years elections, the results are now in. Thank you to all of the candidate for their hard work, and they can get back to their degrees now. The Union uses Single Transferable Vote for the election, which means if no-one gets 50% of the valid vote in the first round, the second preferences of the least popular candidates are used, until the the quota is met. For more detail on how STV work see here.
The turnout was 1282. The results are as follows:
Co-President Finance & Communication
|Zoë des Clayes||228||232||253|
Co-President Sports & Societies
|Chuck Mukosolu Madekwe*||Disqualified|
* The ruling from Jim Dickinson the Returning Officer was as follows:
At the close of polls a complaint was received relating to the campaign expenditure of Chuck Madekwe. An investigation was conducted which centred on the number of posters that had been purchased by the candidate and declared in receipts, and the apparent discrepancy between the declared number and the number on display across campus.
Having received evidence and put the issues to the candidate, in my view the campaign breached clearly defined expenditure limits and as such I rule the candidate be disqualified from the election. Any preferences for Chuck should be passed over during the count with papers redistributed to other candidates where possible.
