Securitisation Survey

We're eager to hear from you!

Securitisation was set as one of the SU priorities at the beginning of this sabbatical year; with all three officers advocating behind the scenes during term one to address the challenges our community faces due to increased securitisation.

Now, it's your turn to share. Take our survey to tell us about your experiences and suggestions. Your input will inform our report to the university, pushing for the improvements we all want to see.

SU Speak Week

Hey everyone!

Get ready to have your say! SOAS SU Speak Week is coming up, from March 11th to 15th, and we want YOU to give us feedback to help create the best possible university experience for everyone.

Throughout the week, we'll be hosting several focus groups where you can share your thoughts, ideas, and feedback on both your academic journey and social life at SOAS.

Here's what's happening:

Tuesday 12/03: Join us for the SU Town Hall, a unique opportunity for students to gather and participate in a facilitated discussion. Together, we'll select 4-6 topics for upcoming student surgeries with university directors. This event empowers students to shape the conversation and engage more deeply in future initiatives.

Wednesday 13/03: Join us for a casual brunch to discuss how can the Student Union help to give you the social experience you want at university.

Later that day, we'll host an interactive session where you can share your vision for SOAS. This session will be focussed on the question: If you were in charge of SOAS for a day, what would you change, what would you keep, and what would you get rid of?

Thursday 14/03: Dive deep into academics and share your thoughts on your academic experience here at SOAS. This session will be focussed more on what SOAS is currently doing well, and how it can be further improved.

Drop by our stall which will be in the JCR all week to learn more about SOAS SU Speak Week and provide feedback in-person.

To sign up to participate in the focus groups please use this link.

There will also be opportunities to volunteer to help out behind the scenes! Volunteers will be provided with opportunities to get involved with the planning and smooth running of the focus groups, as well as helping out with the stalls and/or asking students to provide feedback via our Form. If you’re interested, please sign up using this link.

Don't miss this opportunity to use YOUR voice to shape YOUR future at SOAS! We value your voice and can't wait to hear your thoughts!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Exam Advice

As you will be aware, exams will take place on campus – in person – between 6 and 31 May 2024.

Some of you will recall that during the pandemic we were unable to host exams in person, due to government restrictions set out at the time. This year we will complete the transition back to in-person exams, following the mixed exam model in place last year.

How will exams be organised?

Most exams will be conducted digitally, on your own laptop, under exam conditions and in an invigilated exam space.

There are four different exam formats in 2024:

  • Digital, open book
  • Digital, closed book
  • Paper-based, open book
  • Paper-based, closed book.

The formats have been pre-set and it is not possible to change these. To find out more please see the Examinations and Assessments on MySOAS for Students.

What happens next?
Before the end of January we will be in touch to confirm the format of each of your exams.
We will confirm the process for requesting a SOAS loan device for any digital exams you may have, if you do not have access to your own device for the exam period.
Learning Teaching and Enhancement guidance on the support available for exams will also follow.

Your questions about exams
We have set up a resources page on MySOAS for Students to answer frequently asked questions. You can find this in MySOAS for Students.
If you have module-specific questions about an exam, please contact your module convenor.

If you have other questions about exams, please contact your College Administration and Student Support Services.
For any questions about re-sits, please contact the Assessments and Progression team via SID.
