Queer History Month!

It's finally Queer History Month and we have an AMAZING schedule for you! The events schedule is above, but here is a quick description of each event:

 

6th of Feb - Film Screening of The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson @17:00

Join us in the KLT at 17:00 to watch The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson. The film investigates the mysterious 1992 death of black gay rights activist and Stonewall veteran, Marsha P. Johnson. Using archival interviews with Johnson, and new interviews with Johnson's family, friends and fellow activists.

8th of Feb - Drag Show and Celebrating Queerness Late Licence @20:30

While Queer History Month is a month of reflection on the history of the LGBTQ+ rights movement and the people who got us here, it's also a time to celebrate our life and visibility! Come dressed however you want - only Judy can judge you!

To kick of QHM with a bang, we will be having one of our legendary SOAS Drag Society shows at 20:00 with an AMAZING guest performance from The House of West!

If you would like to try out drag, message the Drag Society or email 639409@soas.ac.uk to find your aunt, Glangela.

After the drag show we will be having a SICKENING late license with DJ's celebrating the music of queer musicians.

11th of Feb - Drag Society Kiki @17:00

Come join us in the Russell Room and play around with makeup, practice dances, talk some shit, eat some food and love all our friends. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about starting drag. Word on the street is that Glangela is having baby fever at the moment!!!

12th of Feb - Queer History Month quiz in Prince of Peckham @20:00

Meet us in the SU bar at 18:00 to have a couple of drinks before heading to Prince of Peckham at 19:30 for their Big Fat Queer Quiz.

13th of Feb - Film Screening of Tongues Untied @17:00

Join us in FG01 at 17:00 for a screening of Tongues Untied. The film documents Marlon Riggs, with assistance from other gay Black men, especially poet Essex Hemphill, and celebrates Black men loving Black men as a revolutionary act.

15th of Feb - Queer Tour of Bloomsbury and Board Games Social @17:00

Meet us at the SOAS steps at 17:00 to go on a tour of local LGBTQ+ historical places.

16th of February - Voguing workshops and The Triple X Vogue Ball 

We are blessed to have the wonderful Sattva Ninja, Bronze Prodigy and Diva Miyake-Mugler to give us New Way, Old Way and Vogue Femme voguing tutorials! Come to learn some vogue moves, and learn more about the history of the movement! Time and room TBA, but starts at 10:00. All levels welcome!

18th of Feb - Panel Discussion: Gender and Performance

20th of Feb - Film Screening of The Handmaiden @17:00

Join us in B101 at 17:00 for a screening of The Handmaiden. The Handmaiden is a 2016 South Korean erotic psychological thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook and starring Kim Min-heeKim Tae-riHa Jung-woo and Cho Jin-woong.  The film follows a woman is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, but secretly she is involved in a plot to defraud her.

22nd of February - LGBTQ+ Open Mic @19:00

27th of Feb - Film screening of The Crying Game @17:00

Join us in (room TBA) for a screening of The Crying Game at 17:00! A British soldier kidnapped by IRA terrorists soon befriends one of his captors, who then becomes drawn into the soldier's world. The film explores themes of race, gender, nationality, and sexuality against the backdrop of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

 

3rd of March - Final Night Out @18:00

Meet us in the SOAS SU Bar at 18:00 for predrinks before we decide on 3 different clubs to go to. More details TBA.
