What is the Students' Union?

So you have just accepted a place at SOAS, University of London, but have no idea what a Students' Union is?? Don't worry you are not alone there; let us explain...

SOAS Students’ Union is a bustling and diverse environment which offers support and representation for all SOAS students. It is our role to make sure that all our students’ – be they international, home, part-time or full-time – voices are heard. We do this in two ways, first via the elected officers on the Union. We have three Sabbatical Co-Presidents who work full time to represent you. They attend School committees and lobby management on issues raised directly by students. There are also ten part time officers who have various portfolios to work on.

Have you heard how politically active the SOAS is?  The Students' Union harnesses all this collectively spirit and regularly runs and supports a range of campaigns each year! We also have over 120 Active Societies that you can join and get involved in during your time at SOAS.  We haven't event mentioned all of our sports teams yet!

In addition to all of this the Union runs the bar in SOAS, a popular meeting place for students. We also have two common rooms (at both campuses) and run the Snack Bar at Russell Square. There is also a stationary shop, the cheapest place to buy your pens and papers in the area. SOAS Union is your Union, we exist to give you a voice and to entertain you – and hopefully to help you get involved.
