"THE VOICE OF THE SANTUR: Music from Iran and Beyond"

After a series of successful concerts in London, Padova, Hong Kong, Cambridge and Oxford, we are back in London to perform a series of concerts to celebrate the musical richness of a variety of cultures and traditions beyond the borders. This concert is organised by the SOAS daf society and is focused on Iranian music and will start with a talk on the Santur by Iranian historian, Dr Mahmoud Kavir.

Performed by the SOAS Iranian band and guest performers.

Friday 16 February at 7.30pm

SOAS – Brunei GalleryLecture Theatre (BGLT), Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG

The “Voice of the Santur” concert series was launched by santur virtuoso Peyman Heydarian in July 2010 at the School of Oriental and African Studies [SOAS, University of London] and has toured world-wide since then.

The santur originated in Iran and is played in different countries. The “Voice of the Santur” programme is a bridge between different civilisations and contributes to understandings of people from other cultures.
