Students' Union Events & Activities

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2020

All Students' Union spaces remain closed, including our offices, the Junior & Senior Common Rooms, the shop and the Bar. 
All SU events are online, and all SU society and activity group activities and events should continue to run online.

As SOAS begins to re-open the campus in Term 1 we will be re-opening our spaces - but only when it we can ensure they are COVID-safe spaces, for our students and our staff. Keep an eye out for our email news and social media for updates on re-opening. 

We're supporting societies and campaigns groups to run events online, and planning a freshers fortnight, and Black History Month with online events where you can meet people, get involved, and take action with other students. 

Our staff are all working remotely - we're still providing support through our Advice Service from Susanna and Lucia, and supoprting our student groups from Jesse (Sports & Societies) Fred, (Radio), Antonia (Course Reps). As SOAS and SOAS SU remain closed (physically), our services are still very much open and available to students. We are working as hard as we can to answer any emails and provide any support and advice needed. Please to get in contact if there is anything you need from us. This is a difficult and unprecedented time, and we are working as best we can to manouvre these circumstances and continue ensuring the SU provides the functions you need from us.

 

MARCH 2020

All Students' Union events, including all student society events and room bookings have been cancelled between now and the end of the Easter vacation (April 20th).
This will be under weekly review (or daily if the situation continues to change) and we'll be in touch with our societies, presidents, events organisers and club captains to support you in cancelling and re-arranging when we're ready to get back to running events. We're so disappointed about having to do this, with so many incredible events planned and all the hardwork you've been putting into arranging them. 

We understand that cancelling events may affect your relationship with any external organisations or individuals you have been working with. If you require assistance explaining the situation to them, please get in touch with the Co-President Activities and Events, Peadar, at pc61@soas.ac.uk.

For Sports, Jesse will be in contact with all our team captains to discuss outstanding matches. The advice from BUCS is for them to still go on despite Covid-19. If you or your team doesn’t want to continue with your matches, please contact Jesse at jd124@soas.ac.uk to discuss the possibilities. 

We are closing our Bar and Shop for the time being. The health and wellbeing of our staff and our students who use these spaces is the most important thing.

The SU Spring Elections were hosted online this year. As the elections were originally pushed back due to UCU industrial action, and we do not know where we will be with covid-19 by Term 3 (and the shift in focus to exams and deadline during this time) the decision to host online was made.
