Society of Latin American Culture

Through the Society of Latin American Culture, we aim to promote awareness of Latino culture among the students of SOAS, through a range of social and academic activities. Latin Americans are part of a growing community in London, which is rich in cultural traditions. Many aspects of Latin American culture have strong connections with Africa, particularly in terms of music and dance and we believe that the understanding of Latino culture could enrich many students' studies. We wish to create a greater appreciation and understanding of Latin American customs and traditions through a number of different activities throughout the year to do with language, theatre, dance, cuisine and film. We plan to offer language and dance lessons, arrange viewings of Latin American or Spanish film and theatre festivals, organize visits to art and cultural festivals, have joint socials with other university of London Latino societies, as well as a number of other inspirational activities.
