Democratise SOAS: 1st Student & Staff Forum 2014

When: Fri 31 October 2014 17:00-18:30
Where: Lucas Lecture Theatre (also known as G2 or DLT)

ITS BACK!!! Democratise SOAS, the campaign, the forums, the discussion, the action, and new proposals for change! On Halloween day, the Democratise SOAS Campaign will be organizing a new assembly, open to ALL soas students and staff, old and new.

Join us on this All Hallow's Eve to be terrified by SOAS' democratic deficit and the evils neoliberalism, which is sucking the life blood out of education through privatisation, commercialisation and marketisation!

Last year we uncovered some of the key mysteries of this University: analyzing the soas governance structure, we uncovered the lack of transparency, accountability and representation at SOAS. These findings were collected and used to petition SOAS' Governing Body.

Against all odds, management reacted, and decided to review its governance...

BUT ARE WE GOING TO STAY QUIET AND LET THEM REVIEW THEMSELVES?

HAVE WE GONE TROUGH ALL THOSE EFFORTS FOR THEM TO 'CHANGE' SO THAT EVERYTHING CAN REMAIN THE SAME?

ARE WE GOING TO IGNORE THE CHANGING TIMES OF MARKETISATION WE ARE IN AND LET SOAS BECOME THE NEW LSE???

We need to be part of the overall review process if we want to shape the future of the institution we study, work, teach, live in, and love.

The Forum on Friday 31st October will be a unique opportunity to re-cap what the campaign has achieved last year, what is happening at the moment, and what is happening other main staff and student struggles in SOAS, which are fundamentally connected to a lack of representation, transparency and accountability within the School.

Agenda:

1) Introduction to and update on Democratise SOAS

2) Updates from the main SOAS campaigns:

Justice For Cleaners SOAS
Fractionals For Fair Play

Fossil Free SOAS
