AIN’T I A WOMAN COLLECTIVE PRESENTS: ‘Size Matters?’ – Kelechi Okafor
When: Tue 28 October 2014 18:30-21:00
Where: 563
About the workshop:
"Size matters" but does it? Through an in-depth workshop, we will explore what our bodies tell us about our place in society. Through the shaming and misplaced obsession with the black female body, it is time to discuss what women of colour feel about their own bodies. How far have Eurocentric values on body image, taken the WOC away from her values?
This workshop is aimed primarily at self-identifying women of colour but open to all. It is limited to 30 participants.
About the facilitator:
Kelechi is a personal trainer with a great passion for the fitness. Sport and fitness have been a part of her life for years, and she successfully runs it alongside her professional acting career. Through training clients and through acting work, she has come to know bodies and society's views regarding the bodies of Women of Colour. It then became a fully fledged mission to assist WOC with loving their bodies according to their own ideals. There is no "one size fits all" rule when it comes to the body and fitness, so it's important to determine our own rules. This way, the body that you desire will be the one you inhabit.
