Equality and Diversity and Anti-Harassment trainings - Session 4

Equality and Diversity and Anti-Harassment trainings - Session 4

When: Tue 25 November 2014 17:00-18:00
Where: 4426

The Students' Union is organising Equality and Diversity and Anti-Harassment trainings for society presidents and sports captains on liberation, safe space, inclusivity and accessibility, and on bullying and harassment.

In the first Union General Meeting of this year, a motion was passed stating that the Students’ Union should organise a number of trainings each year, including:

“Equality and diversity and anti-harassment trainings for society presidents and sports captains and any other committee members during the first term, annually. At least all presidents and captains should have attended one training session by the end of first term, those which have not attended by the end of first term will be given another opportunity in early second term, but failure to attend this could result in suspension of room bookings or budgets.”

Having every society president and sports captain attend these trainings is one of the Students’ Union Equality and Diversity Goals. As societies and sports teams are so central to SOAS life, we believe that these trainings will help spread greater awareness and understanding of issues surrounding equality and diversity. We hope this can be one way of helping to make the Students’ Union more inclusive and putting liberation at the heart of all that we do, and can help to tackle problems of harassment at SOAS which were highlighted in a Harassment Survey last year.
