Carnival of Resistance: SOAS Campaigns & Activism Day

SOAS Carnival of Resistance is back! 

Join us for a day of workshops about campaigning and activism, followed by an open assembly in which we can discuss, coordinate and strategise for the year! Come along to let people know about the campaigns you’re involved in and find out about the campaigns others are involved in, share ideas and collaborate! Here’s the plan so far, but finalised schedule to follow soon! 


Meet and greet at 12:30pm in the JCR


Workshops to include:
*Liberation
*Introductions to industrial action and direct action 
*I Love Consent 
*Activist wellbeing, avoiding burnout
*Union democracy and (the lack of) university democracy 
*Debt 
*Know your rights training in regards to protests and the police (Green and Black Cross)
*Digital security training
* Students in work: know your rights and organising in the workplace (Unite Community) 
*Making campaigns accessible, inclusive, intersectional and non-hierarchical!
…… and more!

Workshops from 1-5pm in classrooms, will be followed by an Assembly back in the JCR. 


Assembly: (rough) agenda:

- Updates from any and all campaigns about their plans for the year

- Discussion of new campaigns that we want to start (such as campaigning to make SOAS more accessible and inclusive, mental health awareness campaigns, fighting against DSA cuts, campaigns around international students issues to Kick UKBA off Campus, and a London-wide housing campaign)

- Discussion of how can campaigns better work together, for example by organising regular campaigns assemblies, and using the Students’ Union website, which now includes a campaigns calendar!

- Discussion of how the Students’ Union can better support campaigns.

- Collective planning and strategising about campaigns and activism this year 

- Feedback from workshop on ‘making campaigns accessible, inclusive, intersectional and non-hierarchical’ and discussion 

- Anything else people want to discuss! 

- Consolidate a network of contacts, united by the passion and will to change the world - SOAS Rebels are back!
