Love Music Hate Racism at Goldsmiths October 30th for Black History Month

Goldsmiths Students’ Union are proud to present a very special line-up celebrating the underground and alternative spirit of hip-hop.

Coming all the way from Oakland California, THE COUP will be playing at Goldsmiths Students’ Union as part of their European wide tour to promote their new album ‘Sorry to Bother You’, released on October 30th. This will be their first show in London for more than 4 years, and the only London date on their tour. Since forming in 1990 The Coup have released 6 albums of groundbreaking political hip-hop building a following around the globe.The band are also involved in political campaigns with frontman Boots Riley playing an active role in the recent Occupy movement. As part of Black History Month Goldsmiths SU is proud to host an artist who has spoken out on racism and police brutality and played an active campaigning role, most recently around the death of Trayvon Martin.

CAXTON PRESS are a ‘polemical London based outfit with an array of intellectual MCs, including a female that offers what we almost forgot women in Hip-Hop are capable of delivering. Beats produced with the London-esque bouncing sound that’s getting people excited about the genre again.’

LOGIC is the co-founder of People’s Army with Lowkey & DJ Snuff. “More than just a rapper, I’m a speaker, cos rappers get branded as gangsters and badness. I’m not Either.”

DJ SNUFF; with 20+ years in Hip-Hop he needs little introduction.The one-man-gang behind the UK’s leading Hip-Hop platform ‘Speakers Corner’ DJ Snuff’s Sets energetically explore Hip-Hop’s diasporic roots through innovative world funk & bass culture.

This gig is being organised by Goldsmiths SU and Love Music hate Racism to celebrate Black History Month. This month will also see a demonstration by the racist English Defence League in East London on the 27th. Please support the protest against the EDL and join the thousands of others who will be in Walthamstow on the day to oppose these thugs.
